Dr Van Kets areas of expertise are Occupational Medicine, Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine, Travel Medicine, Tropical Medicine, Medicine for Offshore and remote areas and General Practice.

He qualified as a medical doctor in Leuven, Belgium in 1991 and worked in South Africa in a variety of positions from 1991 to 1995.

In 1995 he specialised in Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine.  In 1997 he qualified as an HSE Part 1 Offshore Commercial Diver (Fort William) and SCUBA diving instructor (Florida).

He is a certificated examiner for Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) and also has a special interest in orthopaedics and respiratory occupational problems.

He is one of the very few diving medicine doctors who actually worked as a commercial diver.  Combined with working for about 8 years in remote and offshore parts of countries such as Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Mali and Nigeria, he has a unique scope of experience matched by very few doctors.  The majority of that work was for Oil, Gas and Mining industries (both offshore and land based) which makes Dr Van Kets one of the best placed doctors to provide advice to these industries.

Working independently he is able to offer a highly personalised service to both patients and a wide scope of businesses and industries.  He strives to integrate occupational health services with the care provided by GPs and specialists, resulting in better management of health in the work place.

Dr Van Kets is also a sailing instructor and speaks Dutch, French and some Afrikaans.
